How well do people in Azerbaijan know English? – List of countries
The results of another study on the level of English language learning in the world have been announced.
Yeniаvaz.com reports that this study was conducted by the Swiss company “EF Education First”.
The Swiss company has been preparing an annual ranking of countries by English proficiency for many years. This year’s ranking includes 116 countries.
Azerbaijan ranks 86th among 116 countries in terms of English proficiency. According to this result, the level of English proficiency in Azerbaijan is low.
The level of English proficiency was average in Georgia, Belarus, Moldova, Armenia, Russia and Ukraine among the countries of the region.
Along with Azerbaijan, knowledge of the language was considered weak in Turkey, Iran and Kyrgyzstan.

Georgia – 34 (average)
Belarus – 35 (average)
Armenia – 38 (average)
Moldova – 39 (average)
Ukraine – 40 (average)
Russia – 44 (average)
Iran – 62 (weak)
Turkey – 65 (weak)
Azerbaijan – 86 (weak)
Kyrgyzstan – 88 (weak)
Uzbekistan – 98 (very weak)
Kazakhstan – 103 (very weak)
Tajikistan – 109 (very weak)
The Netherlands topped the list in terms of English proficiency. The top ten also included Norway, Singapore, Switzerland, Croatia, Portugal, Denmark, Greece, Australia and Germany. People in Yemen and Somalia have a very poor level of English.
