Meeting of Azerbaijan's CEC kicks off, Calendar Plan regarding snap parliamentary elections will be approved

The first meeting of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of the Republic of Azerbaijan regarding the extraordinary parliamentary elections has kicked off APA reports.

The agenda of the meeting includes adoption of the "Calendar Plan of Main Actions and Measures for the Preparation and Conduct of Extraordinary Elections to the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan", establishment of an expert group and a working group under the CEC.

Note that on June 20, at the meeting of the Board of the New Azerbaijan Party (YAP), a decision was made to recommend that the MPs representing YAP in the Milli Majlis take the initiative to appeal to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan for the dissolution of the sixth convocation of the Milli Majlis and the scheduling of extraordinary elections.

At the plenary session of the Milli Majlis held on June 21, the initiative of the YAP MPs was discussed and a decision was made. The MPs appealed to the President of Azerbaijan for the dissolution of the parliament and the scheduling of extraordinary elections.

On June 27, a meeting of the Plenum of the Constitutional Court was held, and at the conclusion of the meeting, a decision was made that the dissolution of the Milli Majlis was in accordance with the Constitution.

On June 28, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed an Order on dissolving the sixth convocation Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and setting snap parliamentary elections to the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Under the Order, the snap parliamentary elections in the Milli Majlis was scheduled for September 1, 2024.
