Euro 2024: Switzerland sends Italy home
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Italy, the reigning European champions, has been eliminated from contention for the Euro 2024 title after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Switzerland.
In the 37th minute, Swiss midfielder Remo Freuler opened the scoring. Then, in the 46th minute, forward Ruben Vargas doubled his team's lead.
Switzerland began their Euro 2024 campaign in Group A, finishing second after three matches. Under the guidance of coach Murat Yakin, the team collected five points. Germany topped the group with seven points.
Switzerland will face the winner of the match between England and Slovakia in the quarterfinals.
