UK voices concern over death of Turkish-American activist in West Bank

ABritishgovernmentspokespersononSaturdayexpressed"deepconcern"followingthedeathofAysenurEzgiEygi,a26-year-oldTurkish-Americanactivist,whowasshotdeadbyIsraeliforcesintheoccupiedWestBank.

Theincidentoccurredamidstweeksofescalatingviolenceintheregion.

Eygi,knownforheractiveroleinsolidaritymovementssupportingPalestinianrights,wasfatallywoundedduringademonstrationagainstillegalIsraelisettlementsinthetownofBeitaonFriday.

AccordingtoNablusGovernorGhassanDaghlas,anautopsyconfirmedthatEygiwaskilledbyasniper'sbullettothehead.Despitebeingrushedtoanearbyhospital,shewasdeclareddeadonarrival.

TheBritishgovernment,initsstatement,emphasizedtheimportanceofcivilianprotectionandreiterateditscallforIsraeltoadheretointernationallaw.

"Itisimperativethatciviliansareprotected,"thespokespersontoldAnadolu."WecontinuetourgeIsraeltocomplywithinternationallaw."

EygihadbeenactivelyinvolvedinsolidaritymovementssupportingPalestinianrights.Herdeathhassparkedoutrageandcallsforaccountabilityfrombothlocalandinternationalcommunities.
